Software for viewing a surveillance system on the Mac? Hi everyone, I’m looking for software that allows me to view on my Mac the Surveillance camera system in my warehouse over the local network and/or Internet. There are a slew of packages that allow for remote viewing on my iphone and ipad, i.e. CPlayer, Zviewer, etc. But, I haven’t found one for the Mac.
In the iOS apps, I plug in the external ip address of my system, port, user name and password. A second or two later, live streaming of the cameras appears in little boxes. I’d like to be abel to do this on my Macs instead of just my iOS devices. At my office, if I had a Windows machine on my desk, I could easily just log into the surveillance system via a web browser and keep an eye on the system.

But, I use a MAc at work and the system doesn’t work with Mac web browsers. Apparently, it requires Windows only features, i.e. ActiveX, etc. I bring a Windows laptop with me to my office on an as necessary basis for managing the system.
For now, I’ve used one of the iOS apps to keep an eye on the cameras. I’d like to do the same on my Mac itself.
I’ve looked around and found apps for accessing cams and such but not necessarily for accessing a video surveillance system. I’m not sure the ones for accessing IP cams will do the job. Worst case scenario, I'll install Fusion and create a virtual Windows machine and use that to view the system but ti seems like an overly complicated solution for what should be a simple task. Anyone know of software for viewing a surveillance system on the Mac? Thanks, Robert Edited 1 time(s).

THe software for the iOS isn't machine/brand specific. It's actually pretty generic. All it does is allow viewing. No configuration, resetting, etc. Just viewing. That's why I was hoping there would be a Mac app that would perform the same task.
We actually don't have any Windows machines running full time. Just the Windows laptop I bring in on an as necessary basis. I may end up using the Fusion based method at some point butI didn't wan tto go through that kind of rigamarole unnecessarily. Maybe there's a way to run the iOS app on the mac. That would do the job.

What video cameras are these? Can you put up a link so we can see the specs somewhere? I'm asking because we recently did something similar, but got cameras that could specifically work over IP, and were compatible with SecuritySpy. But, I was pleasantly surprised that the cameras themselves (Axis IP video cameras) have built-in server-type functions - upload snapshots or videos to a shared folder or thru FTP, motion activated hot spots, insert date, time, logo on videos, etc.
So, maybe your system offers something similar, and you wouldn't need to worry about actively viewing the video streams - you could use files the cameras have uploaded to a computer somewhere. Unless that's no good, I don't know.
